Elizabeth Lakshmi Kanter

Lakshmi is a spiritual mentor, meditation teacher, yoga therapist, and yoga teacher who has been practicing since 1998 and teaching since 2009, and has been initiated in the lineage of Kashmir Shaivism.  Yoga’s wisdom has helped her continually transform - after the death of her mother in 1999, a divorce in 2015, and while caring for an aging father. Evolutionary spirituality and yogic philosophy have helped her surf through countless transitions, and awaken to the unifying truth of the preciousness and aliveness of each moment.

Lakshmi has written award-winning contemplations for modern art museums, presented on yoga therapy at the Smithsonian, worked with survivors of human trafficking, taught people with cancer in hospitals and on life-enhancing retreats, and assisted Asana workshops at Kripalu Center. She currently leads retreats and goddess circles, teaches weekly yoga classes and regular workshops, and supports private clients.

Lakshmi received Awakened Heart Tantra Meditation teacher training through her primary teacher, Sally Kempton. Lakshmi is an internationally certified yoga therapist trained through Integral Yoga and Yoga Therapy for Cancer and Chronic Illness, where she also serves as faculty. Lakshmi completed Sacred Journey: Being Present with Aging, Illness and Dying, a nine-month contemplative course offered by Insight Meditation Community of Washington. She was born to a Sri Lankan Hindu mother and a Polish Jewish father who married in the style of Quakers, and she sees the sacredness of life in all traditions and in all of existence.

Workshop Offering:

"Turning Toward Shakti: A Tantric View of Reality & the Sacred Feminine"
Ancient traditions recognize the creative dynamism, force and guidance of the divine feminine – the energy known as Shakti in Sanskrit, which literally translates as “Power.” Together, we will explore personal Tantric practices to cultivate and attune to our own Shakti, the sacred feminine archetype within all of us, inherent in nature, and at the creative heart of the manifesting universe. This workshop is for all individuals keen to nurture their spiritual selves, deepen their experience of and dialogue with the creative, playful, and enlightening forces within. Join us for breathing, chanting, imagery and meditation practices designed to strengthen intuition, access greater clarity and fearlessness, and philosophy of the sacred feminine which offers wisdom to support us through all the cycles of life - beginnings, growths, and endings. Everybody welcome. Please bring a journal.
